The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. Following some time of talks, he comes aboard us on next week.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming him soon. We are all looking forward to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David
