Authorities stated they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

An important official said the incident left him without words and required to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
